TRAVEL TALK – language course for 50 years+

Travel Talk is our exciting language and cultural activities course exclusively for the over 50’s age group.  Tailor made to the demands of this group, Alpha College offers a programme which combines enjoyable language practice with exciting opportunities to explore Ireland’s unique cultural heritage.

The programme is designed to be flexible and to respond to the needs of each group. The attached programme gives a flavour of options which are available. The programme can also focus on the interests of the group such as music, history, architecture, nature or sports such as golf, fishing or horse riding. Participants can even start a new skill with some lessons in digital photography from a professional. All programme activities are accompanied by an expert guide who makes the students feel welcome from the moment they arrive.

Accommodation

Included in the Package price: Homestay. . Standard, single room accommodation, half board: bed, breakfast, evening meal Monday - Friday; all meals Saturday and Sunday. Some twin or double rooms available for couples or friends wishing to share a bedroom.

For the periods 14 June-25 June 2010 and 30 August-10 September 2010 participants may stay in our Summer Self Catering accommodation. Cost €185 per single room; €150 per person, per twin room.

Accommodation can also be arranged in hotels or guesthouses at extra cost.

Course Fees

Package €1,060 per person, per two weeks.

Includes 15 language lessons per week, all study materials, social programme, family homestay (14 nights) and registration fee.

Our General English Courses are designed to offer students the opportunity to take top quality English classes and have the flexibility to experience all that makes Dublin so special. We offer our English programmes in the following formats:

• Standard format: - 20 lessons per week

• Intensive format: - 25 lessons per week

• Super-intensive format – 30 lessons per week

Students taking the standard format attend lessons from 09.00 - 13.00 with a 20 minute coffee break, Monday to Friday.

Students choosing the Intensive course have additional lessons on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Students choosing the super-intensive format have afternoon lessons from Monday to Thursday, inclusive.

Classes are offered at the following levels:-

Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Advanced.
(Council of Europe Levels A1 - C1)

The General Business English classes are provided in the afternoons for 10 lessons per week. Only students who have a minimum level of intermediate (CEF B1) may attend these classes.

EU students may enrol for afternoon General Business classes only.

Non EU students wishing to take General Business English classes must also take morning classes.

Students taking this course may also prepare for the TOEIC (Test of English in International Communication) examination as an assisted self study option. 

This internship programme is ideal for undergraduates and graduates who want to improve their communication skills in General English classes in the first part of the programme and consolidate those skills by working in an industrial, commercial, financial or professional enterprise in the second part. Participants find it invaluable when seeking employment on their return to their own country.

The work experience module of this programme is not available in July, August or September. 

Our students consistently achieve very high grades in all of these very challenging examinations to which employers throughout the world give the highest consideration when selecting staff who need to speak excellent English.

This programme is being provided to meet a need from a growing number of students of English who want to spend a longer time on improving their English in a planned and structured manner. They are provided with new challenges and varied opportunities for enhancing both general and specific English proficiency and obtaining an internationally recognised Cambridge, TOEFL or IELTS qualification at the end.

A typical programme would include a 12-week General English module, a 12-week Professional Work Experience module and a 12-week Examination Preparation module.

Alpha College is an approved training centre for the ACELS Certificate in English Language Teaching (CELT) and has a staff of highly qualified and motivated teacher trainers who train prospective EFL teachers year round.

Many of our students like to take General English Group Classes in the mornings and one of these ESP Options on a One-to-One basis in the afternoons. 

This programme is aimed specifically at Managers, Executives, Technocrats and Professional Specialists in Commercial, Industrial, Financial and Public Service Organisations.

The objective of the programme - Morning One-to-One English; afternoon Corporate Visits, individual tours or sports activities and evening social/cultural activities - is to give participants the competence and the confidence to communicate as effectively in English - in both work and socially related situations - as they do in their own language. 

These courses are developed specifically for Managers, Professional and Senior Technical People who need to enhance their Verbal Communication, Report Writing and Presentation Skills in English; who do not have time to take courses during the week and who have access to an airport with direct flights to Dublin.
