Giulia is an Italian student who came to Alpha College as part of a group on an English & Work Experience Programme. After she studied at Alpha for three weeks to improve her level of English, she did a work experience placement in an Irish Art Gallery: Urban Retreat Gallery.
Over her time there, Giulia got the opportunity to organise her own exhibition, from start to finish. Irene, an Italian student from the same group as Giuila also worked part-time on the organisation of the event.
The exhibition, "A View of Tuscany", was held on 17th April in the presence of some prominent figures of the Italian community in Dublin as well as artists and journalists. Giulia was even interviewed by the Dublin Italian newspaper Periodico Degli Italiani e Amici Dell'Italia en Irlanda and her interview will be published in June. Here are some photos of Giulia's exhibition and her comments.
"The opportunity I was given to work in an Art gallery was totally unexpected and I would like to thank Jean-Paul for his patience. I was surprised at the trust the galllery owner had in me: she let me organise a special evening following my own ideas and suggestions. Working at the gallery was professional and well structured and I learnt quickly. I had the pleasure to meet some important people like the Director of the Italian Institute in Dublin, as well as members of the Italian Embassy and obviously artists who cooperate with the owner of the gallery, Noelle Campbell Sharp.
I had great satisfaction organising the Italian Event as I was able to show some of my father's photos and to promote a famous Tuscan photographer. It was a great personal success!"
NB: Jean-Paul is the Corporate Programmes Manager of Alpha College and organises work placements for our students.
