Last week, our group of French apprentices attending an intensive TOEIC Preparation at Alpha College of English visited a printing company as part of their corporate visits programme.
We asked Jean-Charles to tell us more about the company:
"Woodprint Craft is a one of the oldest printing company in Ireland, which employs more than 100 people. It offers a large range of paper mill, different sizes and different types of printing to provide a very large choice to its customers. This company, certified ISO 9000 for its quality, offers an ecological process with prints on recycled paper, and recycles almost all its waste (90%).
The printing process is organised in four steps:
First step: one aluminium plate per colour is prepared in some kind of a big printer. Once prepared, the plates have shapes on one of their face that retains the ink during the printing. Generally, there is at least four pages on a plate, depending of the format needed.
Second step: The plates are positioned on the printing rolls. The sheets of paper go through each roll so each colour is printed successively. If needed, the sheet is turned to print on the other side.
Third step: The sheets are folded to fit the need.
Fourth step: The folded sheets are cut to correct the imperfections and to split each pages.
Printed sheets are stored, and then distributed to the customers (mostly Irish banks and the Irish government). The company has a turnover of about 10 million Euro and a 2% share of the market."
Woodprint Craft allowed us to take a few photos of their premises. Thank you!
