Alessandro, a 35 year old Italian employee in a telecommunications company, first came to Dublin as a tourist in April 2007. He found the city pleasant and the people friendly but was disappointed that he could not speak with the locals as his English was not always sufficiently fluent.
At the time Alessandro was not very satisfied with his job in Italy and he was sure that improving his English skills would turn out to be a good asset for his career and his life in general. He then decided to take a six-month break from work and registered for a course with Alpha College, which he thought was not the cheapest school in Dublin but was Eurocentres’ representative school in Dublin. He soon realised that he had made the right choice when choosing Alpha College. “If you need something in Alpha, or if you have any problems, you will get assistance immediately. The staff is highly efficient there.” Alessandro found that in Alpha we pay attention to our students, we advise them and help them.
He liked it so much that at the end of his course in June he registered
for a second course in Alpha to start in October 2007.
When he came
back, Alessandro was determined to continue improving his English in
order to find a job in Dublin. In addition to his classes, he
regularly attended our free work-finding-skills sessions and talked a
lot with Jean-Paul, our Corporate Programmes Manager. “Jean-Paul was
great. He helped me a lot and gave me advice on how to write my CV,
where to look for a job offer on the Internet and he gave me a list of
websites and companies in Dublin.”
Thanks to his efforts and to
Jean-Paul’s advice, Alessandro got a part-time temporary job in Dublin,
but he continued looking for a full-time position. He was about to
return to Italy for Christmas when he got a call from a recruitment
agency for an interview in an IT firm in Dublin. Two interviews and a
series of tests later, he was offered a position in the company. He
could then head off to visit his family for Christmas with a wonderful
piece of news – in 2008 he would start his job in the Dublin branch of
a hugely successful multinational present in 49 other countries.
“My experience in Alpha College was a really good one”, Alessandro
told me on his last day. It was great to have you here Alessandro and
we wish you the best of luck for your new start in Dublin!!
