Last weekend saw the beginning of the 6 Nations Rugby Tournament with the first Irish match held in Croke Park, Dublin, agaisnt France.
The Ladies' version of the tournament also started last weekend and followed the same pattern, so that the Irish Female Team was meeting the French Female Team.
Two of Alpha College's French students, Julia and Anne-Sophie, took it on to go and support their team in Ashbourne, Co.Meath, about 20km north of Dublin.
Our mission: take the correct bus which would bring us out of town and find the stadium.
Once we found the bus, it was with happiness and relief that we met other French supporters on the bus. But the trip wasn't over! Arrived in Ashbourne, we still had to walk to the stadium. It was in the cold and the night that we discovered the isolated and dark small streets of Ashbourne.
Twenty minutes later we were enjoying the match. The French players opened the score with a try. The match kept going while the two teams couldn't find a solution to break through the opposing defense.
The Irish team scored a try in the last minutes of the match.
The game finished with an Irish victory (7-5). The French players would have deserved a win and their supporters too!
During our return journey to Ashbourne city centre we were able to appreciate the irish hospitality: an Irish person offered to drive us back to the city centre."
