Update on Almudena’s Work Experience

Don’t let the opportunities pass you by.

Good morning!

Today Dublin woke up to the sun, probably the weather is the worst part of this experience of my life, but it’s not so bad, because in days such as today I really love the sun and enjoy it. I would like to tell you about another great experience about my internship, I can´t believe that I have worked for two months in an Irish company.

As I said before, improving my English is the main aim of my work experience. Last week, the company where I am working “Neuro Hero” asked me to help out at a medical conference by the Irish Heart Foundation in the Croke Park Stadium. My boss needed someone to introduce the APP of the company at the conference, so… I couldn´t miss this opportunity to improve my English with Irish people and also get abilities in another area of my Degree. One of the things that I liked most was that I met some of Neuro Hero’s competitors, and in the last week I had to read a lot about them, for market research, so it was great that I could meet people from those companies. I also had the opportunity to visit the Croke Park Stadium which is used for Gaelic Games, the national sport of Ireland.

It was a satisfying morning for me because it’s not every day that you can go to a conference in a Stadium and visit new places at the same time that you get to develop skills for your career. I felt really good when people could understand my explanations, I was so nervous, because it was the first time that I was the only Spanish speaking person in a place…It is difficult feel comfortable without someone there that knows my language, and sometimes this is great because if you can´t understand something they could help you. One of the things that made me feel I was achieving my “improve my English” goal, was that I could understand everybody, the Irish accent sometimes is difficult, but this is better because if you get to understand the Irish accent you will communicate with any English speaker, really! Believe me!

I was lucky with this opportunity, I enjoyed living a great day: practiced my speaking, visited for free one of the tourist attractions of Dublin and also shared a great lunch with people from the conference and my boss.

One of the things that I am learning in this experience is, not only English or new things about how to work in a digital marketing environment, but also knowing that you have to take the opportunities that life offers you, and don´t stop to question it, because if you always say no, or you always see the negative part of the things…you will never benefit from great opportunities like attending a conference in one of the most beautiful places of Dublin.
